Throughout my Service Learning journey, this zoo trip is of the biggest scale event that we have done together as a team.
Firstly, we had to decide the location that would be good to bring these children to, taking into considerations the dangers, budget, educational factors and many more. Next, we had to split ourselves into different groups such as the logistics team, finance team which is in-charged of the budget and looking for sponsors and the overall in-charge.
I was in-charged of the logistics team and we had to list out the things that we need for the event so that the finance team can seek for sponsors or plan the budget. There were many difficulties faced during the planning as we have to draft out our plan and logistics list and send it to the person-in-charge of KidzShine for approval before we can carry out our plan. However, there were a lot of problems such as the gathering time which might be too early for the children, the type of snacks we should buy and lastly, the cost needed.
During the event itself, we had to ensure the safety of the children, with 1 person assigned to 1 child. The weather on the day itself was not very good as well with the rain coming and going, thus we had to ensure that the children are wearing their raincoats properly and were not exposed to the rain. We also put on insect repellents for them to keep the mosquitoes away.
At the end of the event, the children seemed to have enjoyed themselves. Even though the event was a successful one, I did not feel very accomplished as the children did not seem to be very appreciative of what we have done for them.
