I was given the opportunity to have my work attachment at Deloitte & Touche LLP, under the Goods and Services Tax Department from 15 January 2018 to 29 June 2018.
The Goods and Services Tax Department might have many misperceptions in terms of its job scope. When others hear of “GST”, they will think that it is as simple as calculating 7% on the goods or services we pay for. However, the Goods and Services Tax Department is more than just calculating the 7% tax. Being in the Goods and Services Tax Department provided me with many opportunities to try out different tasks and assignments. The following are some of the tasks that were assigned to me throughout my 6 months in Deloitte:
As the only intern in the Goods and Services Tax Department, I was given many opportunities to learn different things and to be allowed to handle tasks that no interns have done before.
Overall, I feel that my time in Deloitte’s Goods and Services Tax Department has equipped me with the necessary knowledge and experience that I need to know about GST. I am sure this experience will definitely benefit me when I return back as a full-time staff after graduation. I look forward to learning even more from my mentors and seniors at work.
To know more about the tasks that I have been assigned in details, I have attached my Work Attachment Final Report as a reference.
As mentioned in my work attachment report, Deloitte has done a lot of CSR but I did not have the opportunity to participate in any of the volunteering work. However, as an intern, I played my part in ensuring environmental sustainability by trying to go paperless as much as possible. I only printed documents that are necessary.
