The Chinese New Year Event was one of the first official event with the Service Learning Club.
As the event was planned by the Lions West Club, we only had to provide manpower and also plan some activities in-between to keep the elderly entertained.
Before the event, we had a meeting as a club to discuss about the activities we could have and we decided to have bingo session as the elderly seemed to enjoy bingo sessions a lot and a mini karaoke/sing along session with the Chinese New Year Songs.
During the event itself, some of us entertained and looked after the elderly, while some help out the Lions West Club with the food. I helped out with the food as there were enough people with the elderly. I helped in the barbecuing of the food for the elderly. I had to make sure that the food were cooked nicely - well-cooked and not burnt. While some of us cook the food, the rest engaged the elderly with balloon sculpting, chatting with them and carry out with the bingo session. After everyone was done with eating, we begin our karaoke session which the elderly enjoyed a lot.
Overall, this event was a fulfilling one. Seeing the smiles on the elderly faces made every effort put into planning and cooking paid off. It was very heartening to see that they have enjoyed themselves.
