2016 Reno Chess Club and Class Championship Rules
Club Games start at 7:00 pm (exceptions may be arranged through TD, unless otherwise stated).
Club Time Control: 30/90, G/60; d5 seconds
Meeting Nights: Thursday and occasionally Sunday at 6:00 pm (except holidays)
January 7th at 7:00 pm: Sign up deadline for both Club (1800/above) and Class (1799/below) Championships
January 2016 USCF ratings to be used throughout championships.
Both events will be Round Robin Tourneys (unless too many players dictate two sections) with condition that they will be finished prior to the Larry Evans Memorial Open.
Players signing up for a round robin event are expected to play all games regardless of score to help maintain integrity and final results of event. Failure to complete all games could result in player being barred from future Club Championships.
New Conditions for Championships:
Once schedule is out it will be maintained. No byes – No Makeup Games.
Exceptions: makeup games may be arranged before tourney starts and games reassigned. In case of “approved (by TD) during tourney” emergency games will be made up as early as possible (before next Thursday’s game when applicable). Players should note the inconvenience to their opponent on making up games so every effort should be made to avoid these situations. Also, every effort should be made to play make up games “ahead” of scheduled game rather than 1 week later. We should not have very many of these.
Class Championships (1799/below):
Qualifier: One section – Single Round Robin – (seed #’s selected by lot).
Winner plays 2-game match vs club qualifier (#8 seed) for #8 seed spot in Club Championship.
Top 2 players from B, C and D will play a 4-game match for same Class Championship. *NOTE: Winner of qualifier will automatically be seeded into finals of same Class Championship.
Club Championship (1800/above):
Eligibility for Club Qualifier – All Club players rated 1800/above+ all past Champions. Players play a Single Round Robin (seed #’s selected by lot). Top 8 players qualify for Club Champion matches (#1-#8; #2-#7; #3-#6; #4-#5). (#8 plays a 2 game match vs Class qualifier champion for #8 spot in Club matches).
Qualifiers for Club Championship matches:
All players that played in Club Qualifier Tourney and finished in top 8 spots +
All players rated 2000/above +
All past Club and Nevada State Champions (within the last 10 years)
If the total number of qualified players is above 8 then the following formula exists to determine the 8 spots:
if 9 players - #9 vs. #8 = 2 game match
if 10 players - #9 vs. #10 – 2 game match. Winner vs #8 – 2 game match.
if 11/more players – conditions to be determined later (by TD) consisting of multiple 2 game matches.
