The Test button plays a background sound if the application has system permission using the BASIC uno platform, otherwise it is disabled.
When you click the Test button in the About dialog, the extension plays a test sound without opening it using an external application. This change makes the button behave like it does on other platforms, and is not affected by external player defaults like "repeat" or "mute".
The Piper text-to-speech options in the main dialog previously included items that might not work reliably on Windows if the command contained a percent sign (%). These items have been renamed to use the word percent on Windows. Additionally, the Piper Windows options now include an --update False option to preview the current voice model information without triggering an update.

Piper text to speech can use gst-launch-1.0 to play audio for platforms that require it as a playback method.
If you install Pied speech manager you can still update the extension piper speech resource folder.

LibreOffice 24.8.0.3 (Windows) : If you enable experimental features in your Windows office application and you have installed Piper TTS, then you can enable voice models in other languages by specifying the --update True option and specifying a voice model. Use --rate "75 percent" in the dialog option to slow down speech or use --rate "125 percent"to speed it up.
LibreOffice (deb version) on Ubuntu 24.04: The Pied application from the Ubuntu Software Center can install and manage selected Piper speech synthesis models. When you use the "--update True" option in the Read Text extension main menu without specifying a particular voice, the extension creates a menu structure in a local directory that includes a complete catalog of voices currently available at the Piper voice model download site. When using Pied as a voice manager, the extension links the Pied speech models and configuration files to the extensions directory. The application also downloads a MODEL_CARD file that includes information about the model and copyright information. You can also manually download models and configuration files to the extensions directory using the Download link on the Piper Voice Samples web page for voice models and quality options that Pied does not support.
