By practicing 'Atma Karma' (Kriya), 'Gyanagni' (Fire of Knowledge) gets ignited. When restless 'Prana' (soul) is offered on the fire of knowledge like 'Ghee'(clarified butter), it fires up more and more. 'Maya' (illusion), 'Moh' (trance), etc. gets burnt away in that fire and the restless 'Prana' slowly tends to calmness, when a time comes, it achieves absolute stillness. As this state is reached by Sadhaka, the external breathing absolutely stops and he becomes 'Nasabhantochari' (Whose breathing flows internally without any sign of external appearance). This is the actual Hom and not what is done as materialistic ritual in Hindu Puja by pouring clarified butter in fire.
