Activity 2 - Using Audacity Effects

First, make a new Audio webpage for you website and complete the following definitions.

~ WARNING - ALL AUDIO USED FOR ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE APPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL ~

Carefully watch this YouTube tutorial about using Audacity, yes it is 16 minutes, but it's good and covers what you need to know.

For this first Audacity assignment, you need to import an MP3 file. You can find a song on YouTube and use this website to download an mp3 copy. IMPORTANT you need to keep the original unedited copy of the song so you can post both to your website.

The original sound clip and edited clip should only be about 1 minute in length.

Import the song into Audacity and experiment with the Effects. Try different effects on different parts.

Effects to try:

- Echo

- Phaser

- Wahwah

- Reverse

- Paulstretch

- Change Pitch

- Change Tempo

Below are an original mp3 of a song (a rock classic from 1985) and an edited version where I applied various effects. Have a listen.

UPLOADING YOUR MP3's

Upload both songs to your website. You will need to use "Add Files" at the bottom of the webpage to attach the mp3's.

Then, under the Insert Menu in the top left corner, select More Gadgets. Click on Public, then search for "odeo" and choose the ODEO Flash Player. Click "Select" and then where it says "Mp3 File to Play (required):" you will need to put the URL link to your attached mp3 file. To get this link, right click on the download arrow beside your song and choose Properties. It will be listed under Address.
