Days 7 - 10 - Greenscreen

As you may have noticed ... we have a large greenscreen in the cafeteria. In addition to video footage, a greenscreen can also be used with still images.

Today we will use the greenscreen to take pictures and then follow the instructions to place yourself in a different environment.

Here are the instructions for the first greenscreening assignment.

Once you have completed and posted your JPG image on your Google site.

Second Greenscreen Assignment

You will complete the following:

- use the same skills from the first greenscreen assignment to place yourself on a "magic carpet" (see attachments below)

- this will require you to use the green cloth underneath you and set it up so you are flying on the cloth

- place yourself flying over a famous landmark such as the pyramids or Eiffel Tower ... try to make it look realistic

- post your completed JPG on your Google Website

Third Greenscreen Assignment

You will complete the following:

Use the same skills from the first assignment to create an Attack of the 50 foot Student Poster

Again the goal of this assignment is to make the final product believable.

ADDING BELIEVABILITY

  • Shadows

    • To create a "shadow layer" follow these steps:

1. Crtl and Click on the thumbnail of yourself

2. Layer -> New -> Layer -> OK

3. Click on the Black and White circle near the bottom of the layers.

4. Select Solid Color ...

5. Adjust your colour to a shade of grey

6. Adjust the Opacity of the shadow layer (see the 100% above the layers)

7. Finally while on the shadow layer, go to Image -> Transform and try Skew or Distort to adjust the shape of the shadow.

    • Observe shadows elsewhere in your background image AND think about where the light source is

    • Use the Burn Tool to create darker sections of shawdow

  • Reflections

    • Tricky - if done poorly, it betrays a bad photoshop job

    • Can be a simple "flipped" version of your subject

  • Colour Balance

    • The light in the subject believably "matches" the light of the background - not only in angle and brightness, but also in colour. After eliminating the green, it may be necessary to adjust the colour balance to create that match.

GUIDELINES

- take a background picture somewhere in the school, use a place where you have room to increase your person

- take a picture of a student on the greenscreen ... think about the pose they use, this is important

- in photoshop, create a new document that is 11" wide by 17" tall, set the resolution to 200 pixels/inch

- you must include the text "Attack of the 50 foot student" in a creative and bold manner

- use depth cues and layers to allow your person to "interact" with the environment (see the example above for Depth Cues
