Confidence Cape

The Confidence Cape began to take shape during sessions I ran teaching students about impostor phenomenon and how to cope with it. Using creativity can make talking about difficult things a little bit easier - there is something to look at together and explore. I asked participants to draw themselves when they feel like an impostor and how they imagine they will feel like on days when they are confident. The cape is a work in progress and will only be completed when there is no more room. [link to news story about the cape]

Examples of Sewings

Confident side of the cape

Those who took part in my sessions drew themself as they imagined they would feel when confident. Unicorns (one on roller skates), a phoenix, a lion, a rooster, a deeply rooted tree began to take shape.

Impostory side of the cape

Participants also drew themselves when they felt like an impostor. A tightly curled up pangolin, a tiny mouse, a wobbly jelly, a butterfly with just one wing, and an ant appeared.
