My research focuses on understanding how people cope with difficult health-related conditions. I am especially interested in how we can help people cope well when living with persistent pain conditions.

My recent book focuses on pain self-management and questions whether we could approach this differently:

Could we do better at recognising that each person living with pain has their own specific life context, one that brings unique challenges that impact on their ability to cope?

Could we move away from calling coping with pain 'self-management' and towards calling it 'collaborment'.
