Matt Jay Murphy Good work Terry I remember going to ward Christmas party's in the old place over 30 years ago with my mum i was around 5/6 years old and still have lucid memories of the old dorms and very institutionalised old people/patients When she 'Judith Murphy' was a young staff nurse :))) love this site but how it's changed even from me being there now for nearly 10 years ??
Mark K Southwell Wow, what an amazing place it used to be. When I started working there around 15 years ago, they had just started to demolish the building at the side of Edenfield, think that was the last bit to go? Love the videos! ;o)
Leonie Cookson The good old days....
Angela Nairn-White Love the Prestwqich Page - keep up the hard work xx

Hi Terry,
Well done, enjoyed watching the clips and the drive around video Me and John take the dogs on the cricket pitch every day and talk about what it used to look like, Keep up the good work. Take care .Mike
Kate Foy Thank you so much for an amazing trip through time! When I moved to Manchester in 1989 I lived in Whitefield and always wondered at what lay beyond the Bury New Road brick wall that seemed to stretch for miles. Now I know and what a fascinating place it was.
Thirteen years later I came to work here myself and apart from an aerial photo of the site taken in 1952 from Barton aerodrome and old photos collated by some of the catering staff this is the most extensive collection I have ever seen.
I currently work with staff who still remember the site as it was and I shall have great pleasure in showing them your website.
Amazing work, thank you
Ruth Kay..Terry, I have been sent this wonderful link - its great to look back at the old Prestwich site - and brings back lots of happy memories when I worked here in the late 80's and early 90's. Well done you!!

Hi Terry,
Very interesting site. Well done for your local history coverage and recording of an important part of Prestwich’s history (and psychology in the UK) I always remember being scared yet fascinated by the whole complex as a kid. Especially when we went hunting the best conkers in the area! Not to mention the crab apples on the grounds. Can’t recall where about’s we went but I do remember an old farm nearby we used to explore the barns and sheds on bicycle treks down to there, with the O’Brien’s and Carols..always remember finding a dead cat crawling with maggots one hot summer’s day. Funny how things stick in your mind from childhood?
