Clips

Here is a small collection of clips that involve the main Hospital and Annex during the closure and sale.

This clip features the Annex, kitchen yard and is roughly the site of the new women's wards at Edenfield. It housed its own boiler room, kitchens and works department, as well as a staff shop and dining area.

This clip shows a large bit of damaged too the wall off this ward. If you have seen the clip from the main chimney you may have noticed Agecroft power station. There was once a mining complex around the area and the Health Authority was in a conflict with the company, blaming the mining of the area for the subsidence and causing the damage. So as history has it, the Annex was demolished and then built on again. "the ground must be cured or money talks".

Below is the power station meeting its demise . ( Random clip but it is part of the Hospital demise as well .)

The clip below is a short film on some items that were auctioned. I can remember steel beds being sold for £2 and side cabinets for £1. I also remember an old red Tractor being sold for £30. Everything was sold; pianos by the dozen, snooker tables "full size slate bedded, all the kitchen fittings, even the floors were ripped up and sold.

The two clips below are the Annex wards ( I won't name them unless I get feedback to do so.)

The clip below ends at the point of where the new acute wards have been built.

The clip below shows the main wards and includes shots of the football pitch that the hospital had. The hospital also contained a full sized tennis courts, full size cricket field and a full size bowling green. The hospital also had its own social club on the grounds; This was found by the side of the nursery and below the doctors quarters. (I am not sure who planned the layout, but it seems strange to have the doctors sleeping quarters on top of a pub and close to the nurses sleeping quarters and attached to the nursery, Hmmm). Anyway, it's all gone now and I do miss the social club. However, in today's environment it would be called the "antisocial club".

This next clip below, shows the front of the hospital where Tesco now stands. It also includes the T.G.I Fridays land and shots of the out patients unit. As well as the North Lodge "inquiries, key lodge" where staff clocked on for a short while until the clocking on machine was accidentally filled with sand "mystery to this day". You can also see the "A" block and the mortuary in front of it.

This last clip is a bit random. Over the years staff sometimes raised money for events so I feel I need to show a clip of this. Please put your hands together for Jan Whitehead and Gary Frankland "THE BUNGEE JUMP".
