The entertainment theatres

The hospital had two entertainment theatre's one at the main Hospital and one at Clifton house "Annex". These were Victorian theatres and were absolutely outstanding in workmanship. They had heavy felt curtains, oak framework, full footlights and the floor was high polished parquet flooring. Unfortunately, as time went on it was slightly modernised and the powers that be decided to paint markings on the floor and turn it into a sport hall. However, the stage remained the same and was only modernised by the introduction of a movie screen. The spotlight room became a projection room and the whole place could be turned into a cinema. The theatres were used every Christmas and the staff and patients would put a show on, sometimes outside talent was used. Below is the Annex theatre on closure. After this film was made, the place was torn apart and sold off in a massive auction. Hospital beds were sold at two pounds each.
