optics-Sept-5

A montage of a full range (10mm) focus sweep- focus 0 is at bottom left, focus 9500 is at top right. Each image along a row has a focus +500 from the one before it.

To be concrete, the images in the left most column have, starting from the bottom, foci of 0, 2000, 4000, 6000, 8000 microns.

Knife Edge Test

At service position, the top half of the secondary was blocked, cut along the semi-minor axis. (Frames 1371-1391)

CCD 2, at rows 410:1700 and cols 410:800

At service position, the top of the secondary was blocked, cut along the semi-major axis. (Frames 1395-1416)

CCD, at rows 1100:1400 and cols 1300:1700

The second and third rows of the above:

Hartmann Mask Test

Hartmann mask- 8 hole inner ring, 8 hole outer ring, on spokes. (Frames 1417-1437)

CCD 2, at rows 910:1210 and cols 310:700

The second and third rows of the above:

One way to read the Hartman screen data is to look at the location trajectory of the spots-

they should come to a single focus. If we use four central spots in a cross (plus one outer spot)

we see that they reach no obvious focus.

But it you look at all 16 holes, you see that most of them reach a focus point,

at the lower left, albeit not at the same z-focus position.
