Physics IAs will be done in the fall, and will consist of an extended lab activity that you design, carry out, and analyze. The Physics IA is 200 points.
Your first paper in the Math HL1 year will be for practice. It is a type where you're given a set of instructions outlining your research. Grading will be done according the rubric below. See "IA Requirements" and "IA Rubric", below.
After the initial grading is done to IB standards, the initial, or "raw" grade is rescaled to match normal high school grading standards. IB Math IA assignments are worth 150 points in my classes.
Your IA papers (two done during HL 1 and an optional paper during HL 2) are very open-ended. You will choose your own topic and, with guidance, refine it into a complete and thorough paper.
Papers must be typed! If you don't have Microsoft Word, you may need a new program with the capability of typing equations into your papers. Here's a link to a FREE word-processing and spreadsheet program called Libre Office which will operate on any computer... though it IS sometimes slow to start up.
