The continuous population growth in southern countries makes food security one of the major challenges for the coming decades. Intensified pressure on ecosystems, climate change, and the restricted availability of farmland are all factors that place this challenge in a difficult context. Scientific advances are needed, notably in order to better manage biodiversity in agro-ecosystems. Our team is involved in three main research trajectories, focusing on tropical biodiversity and its evolution under environmental and human pressures. Additionally, several smaller projects on related topics are also ongoing.
Our main objectives are:
To describe and analyze the diversity patterns of tropical plants,
To analyze how ecological, human, and historical factors have shaped plant diversity,
To understand the services that biodiversity provides to humanity.
Diversity & evolution of
trees & tropical forests
Diversity and evolution of
cereals, root & tuber crops
