GUYAMAZ (2012-2015) - Training for studying the evolutionary history of amazonian crops in Brazil and French Guiana - Funded by AIRD (France) and FAPEAM (Brazil)

Project leader: C Clements, C Campa, Y Vigouroux

Scientists involved from our team : Y Vigouroux, N Scarcelli

The main interest of the teams participating in the present proposal is to examine the genetic diversity and distribution of native Amazonian crops, to understand the evolutionary processes that have affected each of them, and to identify patterns of domestication and diffusion by pre-conquest humans across Amazonia. The general approach is phylogeographical, but with a local component that will contribute to understanding the dynamics of domestication in farmer communities. The information generated will contribute to a broader objective: analysis of the dynamics and functioning of this agrobiodiversity at different spatial and temporal scales in order to support management strategies for its conservation and sustainable use. In this GUYAMAZ proposal, we plan to deliver training so that crop evolutionary studies in the Amazonian basin can benefit from the most up-to-date methods and approaches.
