Number Talks

I discovered a new way to warm up the class that was very successful last year (2016), so I will continue this approach. The students really enjoyed Number Talks (Making Number Talks Matter, Humphreys and Parker, 2015 ). This strategy causes the students to explain their thinking in a very non-threatening and fun manner. I saw such tremendous growth in their ability to explain their thinking that this year (2017), I plan on using this approach to help them translate verbal problems into mathematical expressions and equations.
