Definition of Palmspin and Backspin
Pen Spinning Trick directory treats Palmspin tricks as a series of tricks in which the pen spins on the palm of the hand, without regard to how to push the pen and catch it. Palmspin is frequently linked from a Thumbaround or Fingeraround, is often mixed up with Inverse Shadow, may also be done by pushing the pen just as in Fingerless Thumbaround, or by once holding the pen and releasing it. Following videos are compiled on the basis of the difference in ways of push or linkage, and Backspin tricks likewise.
Palmtap can be simply regarded as Palmspin performed by pushing the pen with a finger, which may make the pen spin more than 0.5 rotations.
Some pen spinners call Fingerless Fingerspin "Backspin", however, in Pen Spinning Trick Directory, Backspin is treated as Palmspin tricks with the pen spinning on the back of the hand. Some spinners use another trick name, "Backhand Spin", to avoid this ambiguity, which may sound loose and informal.
Definition of Palmtap and Baktap
Palmtap should simply be Baktap performed on the palmar surface, or inside of fingers, however, there currently two variations which would be called Palmtap or Palmspin 0.5. One is performed by pushing the pen as in Baktap, and the other involves bending a finger (typically, the index finger) to push the pen on th palm or the palmar surface of fingers. Pen Spinning Trick Directory considers that the former should be the regular Palmtap and the latter should be a Palmspin.
Difference between Palm/Backspin and Palm/Baktap
According to the UPSB wiki, the pen spins on the palm in Palmspin, whereas in Palmtap the pen spins on the inside of the fingers. However, this rule may mix up Palmtap with Inverse Shadow or Inverse NeoBackaround, etc., as in the last two tricks the pen also spins on the inside of fingers. A reasonable way to classify these three tricks is to define Palmtap as a trick involving tap of the pen Top-spinning on the palm or the palmar surface of fingers for 0.5 rotations or more.
