Aim and Policy

Pen Spinning Trick Directory focuses its energy on accumulating, enumerating, analyzing, and presenting a number of known pen spinning tricks in the world coming with videos. Yet this will not serve like an instructor of pen spinning tricks, as it does not have concrete information on how exactly to do pen spinning tricks like tutorials. PSTD also has interest in classification, definition, and notation of pen spinning tricks, and some of the pages discuss these issues in the form of opinions of the administrator.

PSTD's definition of trick

Pen Spinning Trick Directory is not supposed to involve combos and hybrids. At the same time, PSTD's definition of tricks may be different from those of other forums or other pen spinners. Some hybrids which are generally assumed or defined so in wikis are treated as tricks in PSTD, based on the number of push of the pen and changes in the direction or appearance of spins, at my discretion.

I, the administrator, think of the difference in fingerlsots of tricks as an important element in composing a combo, because the possibilities for the creation of combos have much to do with the diversity of fingerslots of tricks, whereas rotations of tricks seem not to be fundamentally important in coming up with a combo, which will just contribute to the difficulty or appearance of a combo.

For the same reason, the difference in ways of pushing the pen is regarded as playing a significant role in the diversity of tricks, and is also interesting for the field of classification of tricks. Thus tricks having similar appearance, types of spin are counted as different stuffs, as long as their ways of pushing the pen differ.

Furthermore, some visitors may notice that some of the description in Pen Spinning Trick Directory are inconsistent with the general agreement or wiki definitions. I would like to emphasize that wiki definitions or presentations, recommendations of UPSB Naming Committee are not always the best, and they are not the only way to describe pen spinning. In spite of the inconvenience, I am not necessarily willing to adhere to those assumptions.

Does Pen Spinning Trick Directory involve information on trick creators?

UPSB wiki gives information on creators of tricks, however I think it's not favorable to refer plausibly to such things without any credible evidence, although I assume that some people are interested in knowing who the first person to have succeeded in performing a particular new trick is. It's highly possible that there is another one to have become able to perform the trick earlier than the person believed to be as a creator on the wiki, who may not be even such a pen spinner as one in the Internet pen spinning world, or at least who may be from a foreign pen spinnig community.

I thus decided not to have this Pen Spinning Trick Directory provide those kind of uncertain information, as if they were correct.

Pen Spinning Trick Directory is looking for new videos

Pen Spinning Trick Directory is looking for new videos of pen spinning tricks for its research purposes. If you are able to perform any tricks or variations which are not yet added to PSTD, and would like to help, please film those, upload on YouTube or Google Video and send me the URLs of the videos, which will enable me to introduce them at the site.

Videos of good quality, well skilled, and with plain background are highly welcomed, and it would be better if the video includes a slow-motion part at the end of it. In addition, videos to be submitted are desired to have as few tricks as one, the target trick, and to be silent: BGMs, voice instructions, and noises removed.

The videos displayed on the webpages are credits to the performers or owners of the videos, and of course Pen Spinning Trick Directory does not have anything to do with the ownership of the videos. If you mind my embedding your YouTube or Google Video videos on this website, please refer to the link below. Thank you for your contributions to the pen spinning world.
