Engineering Encounters Bridge Design Contest - April 7th at the Downtown Pensacola Library

The Pensacola Branch of ASCE will be hosting the 2018 Engineering Encounters Bridge Design Contest on Saturday, April 7th for elementary, middle, and high school students living in and around the Pensacola area.  Individuals and teams of two may compete.  The contest is to design a truss bridge that can support a truck at the lowest cost, using the Engineering Encounters Bridge Design Software.  Below is a flyer with contest information and a PowerPoint Presentation that provides a tutorial on how to use the program.

When:    Saturday, April 7th at 9:30 AM
Where:    Downtown Pensacola Library, 239 N. Spring Street, Pensacola, FL 32502
Download:    The software can be downloaded for free to practice at https://www.cesdb.com/west-point-bridge-designer.html
Prizes:    The top three winners from the middle and high school division will receive cash prizes of up to $100.  First place from the middle and high school division will also be invited to compete at the State Competition in St. Petersburg on July 13th.  The elementary school division is a local only competition.  Winners from that category will receive a cash prize, but will not be able to compete at the State Competition.







ASCE / FES Joint Networking Lunch

Join us for the 2017 Holiday Happy Hour as ASCE partners with the local chapters of seven other professional organizations!  It's the signature holiday event of the year on the North Gulf Coast and will once again shine a bright spotlight on all the sister organizations coming together to celebrate our friendship and accomplishments throughout the year.

Includes drinks, food, and live music.  This will be a great networking opportunity with 150+ guests anticipated.

Gingerbread House Building STEM Event at the Boys & Girls Club - Wednesday 12/13

This December we are going to introduce elementary students to the what, how, and why of structures.  This event will include a presentation on the basics of structures and a "Build a Ginger Bread Structure" activity using graham crackers, icing, and candy.  Volunteers are needed to help create and give the presentation and/or assist with the activity.  We expect about 50 elementary students, so any help with this activity is appreciated.  Volunteers are also welcome to bring their kids to participate in this event.

Joint October ASCE / FES Meeting - Tour of Pensacola Bay Bridge Casting Yard - Thursday 10/26

Join your fellow FES and ASCE members for a tour of the Pensacola Bay Bridge Casting Yard, given by Skanska Project Manager Jim Thomas.

  • Location: Skanska Casting Yard, Pensacola, FL 32502
  • Time: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm on Thurs. October 26th
  • Cost: Free (and open to non-members)

We will meet in the Skanksa parking lot where Mr. Thomas will give us a quick safety briefing followed by a tour of the plant. Lunch will not be provided; however, please join your fellow members at the Oar House immediately following (should your schedule allow).

Safety Equipment is required (listed below).

  • Hardhat
  • Gloves
  • Safety Glasses
  • Vest
  • Boots
  • Long pants

If you need to borrow safety gear (or if you have extra equipment you can lend to others) please let us know. Hope to see you there!

ASCE Pensacola Branch Golf Tournament

ASCE Pensacola is hosting their 3rd Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, November 17th to support local K-12 S.T.E.M. programs. Proceeds will benefit the Engineering Encounters Bridge Competition held in the Spring. Shotgun start is at noon with 11AM registration and lunch. Awards and prizes will be handed out afterwards.  Dinner will also be provided.

Golf registration is $125 per person, or $35 for government employees, and includes green fees, cart, drinks, lunch, and dinner. Sponsorship opportunities include tee signs, hole in one, putting contest, cups, golf balls, beverage cart, lunch, and dinner.  Mulligans and raffle tickets can also be purchased.

UWF Football Tailgate Party - 9/23 at the Maritime Park

To kickoff another great year, your ASCE Pensacola Branch is hosting a UWF Tailgate Event on Saturday, September 23rd for the Argos' home game against Valdosta State!  Beginning at 3pm, we will be gathering at the Maritime Park (exact location to be emailed out the week of the game).  Look for the tent with the ASCE banner.  ASCE will provide snacks and drinks for all attendees that RSVP.  Deadline to RSVP is Friday September 22nd.  We will also have tv's streaming other college football games.  Kickoff is at 6pm at Wahoos Stadium and game tickets are purchased on your own.  Join us in the standing room only section for $11 per ticket.  Hope to see you and any family and friends you want to bring there!




ASCE, FES, and SAME Joint Lunch Meeting - 4/13 at the Pensacola Grand Hotel Conference Center

Please join us for our next ASCE event:  The lunch session of the CSI Product Show next Thursday April 13th at the Pensacola Grand Hotel Conference Center.  The lunch portion is jointly sponsored by ASCE, FES, and SAME.  Brett Pielstick with Eisman Russo will be giving an update on the Pensacola Bay Bridge replacement project.  Mr. Pielstick is in charge of the Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team for this project and will be giving some insights to the project from that vantage point.  Lunch starts at 11:45 and the presentation starts at noon.  This will qualify for 1 PDH and everything including the food will be free of charge.

Guest Speaker Dr. Sharon Heise, Associate Director of the Institute of Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), will give an overview of the IHMC and then provide a tour of the new facility.
