Artifact: Interview/Research essay for LIS 764-Library User Instruction class (please see attached file)
Explanation Paragraph:
When writing this essay, I started by composing a literature review based on the topic I chose. I read several articles that addressed library and literacy instruction at the college level, on topics such as students’ literacy behaviors, how to best design instructional sessions, tools that can make such session effective, and how librarians and faculty can better collaborate in instructional efforts. With these discussions in mind, I composed questions to answer in interviews with instructional librarians. Then, I interviewed two instructional librarians at Concordia University Chicago. I talked with them about how they do instructional sessions, what methods and technology they incorporate, and how they’ve attempted to work with faculty to bring classes to the library for instruction, and expand library instruction to a full-fledged course. In my essay, I made connections between the topics in the articles I read, and how those topics are applied in the reality of library instruction.
