Artifact: Weeding Assignment for LIS 748-Collection Management Class (please see attached file)
Explanation Paragraph:
The weeding project in Collection Management class was a particularly great opportunity for us to apply collection management principles to materials in the Crown Library. For this assignment, I examined a selection of books pertaining to art history. Upon starting, I took the time to gain a sense of what the art curriculum is like at Dominican University. I used that knowledge to guide the process whereby I examined each book in the shelf space I was assigned, and the CREW method, to determine if each item was relevant, useful, and in good enough condition to keep. Weeding is definitely an important part of the process of maintaining a library collection, and this exercise gave me a hands-on chance to work with a collection of books and determine what needed to be removed so that the collection overall could provide the best materials.
