Problem One: “Computer Performance is Slow”
In analyzing a problem with your Computer’s Performance there are a few things I would look at first just in plain site that could be a potential problem to slow up your computer’s performance; the things that I would look at first hand would be:
· If there are an active Icons in the lower right or left-hand side of the task bar
· Are you Multitasking too much (Too many windows open at once)
· What websites are you going to
· Check your performance meter in your Task Manager to see where you are at as far as CPU usage and Memory usage goes.
To resolve these issues:
· Be mindful of what icons you have available on your taskbar and eliminate the ones you are not using, they can potentially slow your computer down due to memory being used to keep them active.
· Do not Multitask too much, that also can use up a lot of memory and any tasks that haven’t be completed could be stored in the RAM chip and not be active if you are activating more tasks, you can end up flooding your computer with tasks. It would be best to do a memory dump once in a while to ease up on that issue by either going to your tools menu under properties when you right click on your C drive in “My Computer” and doing a Disk Cleanup that will help dump any excessive memory that is cluttering up your computer, it is also accessible in the Accessories file in the Start Menu under All Programs. Another thing to consider is Disk Defragmentation at least once every one to two weeks or when you get up to 20% or more of Fragmentation on your disk which the Disk Defragmenter will let you know if it recommends a defragmentation at the time. This will help put files in order; relieve any useless files and a chance of corruption.
· Be mindful of the websites you go to, (Some website has tracking cookies or other potentially dangerous programs attached to them that could harm your computer or steal information from you). If your computer alerts you that you have a potentially dangerous program on your computer off a website, exit the website and disconnect your computer from the internet right away (Ethernet, wireless or USB wireless adaptor). Some programs may be trying to enter your computer and may give you a warning that your computer has a virus and that you need to download their product to get rid of the problem. Don’t fall for it, you are being set up for a trap which can potentially crush your computer or damage it to the point of uselessness or steal personal information and some programs like that die out as soon as you disconnect from the internet saving you ton of cash in repairs or possibly replacing your computer. After you disconnect from the internet, before you reconnect perform a full-thorough scan with your Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware program to make sure there are no remnants left on your computer from that attempt and for extra measures run your Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to fully ensure that you don’t have any remnants of the viral program left on your computer this will help protect what you have and keep it clean.
Problem Two: Problems with Wireless installation (Wireless Adaptors or Wireless Smartcards)
When installing a wireless adaptor or a wireless smartcard you want to check for a few things just to make sure you didn’t waste your money, first of all:
· Check that compatibility rate on your computer to see if you can use the adaptor or the smartcard on your computer
· Make sure you follow all the instruction to the adaptor or smartcard
If you run into any problems will get connectivity from the adaptor or smartcard, go to command prompt and type in “ipconfig” just to see what your connectivity status is. If everything looks okay and you have an ip address, a subnet mask and a default gateway address then reboot your computer so that it may recognize the new hardware installed. If you don’t get a window or a bubble that identifies the new hardware, go to the control panel screen click add hardware and after the program scans for the new hardware and identifies it, click on that hardware in the list and click on the button that says, “Have Disk” this will load the drivers if it hasn’t already done it. If there are any further issue, then shutdown the computer, disconnect the hardware, reboot the computer, uninstall any drivers that were loaded if at all, then shutdown the computer, reconnect the hardware and reboot so that the computer can recognize the new hardware and then reload the drivers. Anything after that you will have to call Tech. Support or replace that hardware.
