VMware Tools of the Trade:
This Technical Document is to provide a written documentation and explanation on what the VMware presentation is about. It is Essential that you know your basics on VMware Software usage before taking this course so that you can better understand VMware and all the Tips, Pointers and Capabilities that are and what they can do. You must at least know how to make a Virtual Machine using VMware Software first, before considering this course. This Technical Document also outlines what features will be presented and how it will benefit you. First initial step is to make sure you have VMware Software loaded into your Personal Computer.
1. Open the VMware Workstation Software, select “Next.”
2. Select “New Virtual Machine,” then select “Next.”
3. Select “Custom” selection when selecting the type of VMware Machine you want to make, Select “Next.”
4. In the top drop box select the type of VMware Software you are currently using (ex. 6.51 or 7.0), select “Next.”
5. There are three options to pick, to make it short and simple, select, “I will install the Operating System later,” then select, “Next.”
6. Depending on what type of Operating System it is, what the make of it is, select which operating system it is, but find out who makes the ISO Image, then go to the drop down box and see if the OS fits into any of the categories, if not select, “Other” way at the bottom, then select, “Next.”
7. Type in the name of the Virtual Machine and then pick the location where you want it to be saved, either type the name of the location or use the “Browse” selection then select, “Next.”
8. Depending on how your External Hard drive is set up select how many processors you want and how many cores per processor you want set up on the processor, which VMware will brief you before you proceed if the system can be supported or not, then select, “Next.”
9. Then select the amount of memory you want to use depending on if your system will support it or not, then select, “Next.”
10. Then select what type of Network you want to set up with your host and select, “Next.” (Bridged is Recommended).
11. Then choose the I/O controller (SCSI is recommended) then select, “Next.”
12. Then select, “Create a New Virtual Disk” because you are creating a disk, then select, “Next.”
13. Then select Virtual disk type (IDE is recommended) then select, “Next”
14. For Maximum disk size type in the size of the disks Local C drive Virtual memory, then choose if you want to allocate it or not (for best results choose to Allocate disk) then select, “Store Virtual Disk as a single file” or you can choose to split the disk for backing up on your virtual machine, then select, “Next.”
15. Then choose where you want the Virtual Disk to be created and select, “Next”
From that point, once the disk is created you can use the disk in whatever way you want to use it. You can download items on to it, set it up as a simulator for testing programs. You can open it with the Virtual Player and make modifications on the virtual player with it. For best results, after setting up the disk on the VMware Workstation, go into, “Edit Virtual Machine” and check all settings on it, make sure the CD/DVD is set to choose the location of the ISO Image with the “Browse” menu and make sure all the information you entered when setting the machine up is current. Press “OK” and then you are ready to go.
