GA Minutes, Nov 6, 2011

Post date: Nov 07, 2011 12:15:37 AM

by Dave King,

Day two of the occupation and we're still going strong. Here are the main points from our GA:

1. There are still many blank spaces left on the shift schedule. Even if it's just an hour, it helps. It's also a good study time. If you choose to sign up for a shift, write "C" next to your name if you have a cell phone. Write your contact info on the contact sheet. The original sheet has been lost, so if you signed up for a time yesterday then you will need to write your contact info again.

2. We will be sending a student representative to the Student Association General Assembly at 5:30 on Thursday.

3. We are still looking for people to donate food. If you are willing to donate, please contact Wendy Dunst.

4. A good place to put up flyers is the unemployment office. Make sure to include spanish translations and to put occupyfredonia.org somewhere on the flyer. To appear as welcoming as possible, use rhetoric that implies that this is an ongoing public discussion where all voices are equal, not a protest.

5. In dealing with hostile or annoying people, offer them a chance to speak, and make sure you listen attentively. They will likely turn away if they are actually given respect in return for their disrespect. Try to handle things yourself or with another occupier's help; calling the police is a last resort (but don't be afraid to if there is sign of danger). See howtooccupy.org for more information.

6. There will be a march on 11/11/11 at 11:11AM from Barker Commons to SUNY Fredonia to help drum up student interest.

7. There will be a notebook designated to keep track of donations and keys. Allison will be in charge of said notebook.

8. The most recent GA Minutes should be printed out and posted in the Gazebo so everyone can know the latest news.

9. Finally, keep in mind that Occupy Fredonia, along with the Occupy Movement as a whole, acts non-violently and advocates non-violence above all else. By adapting the Declaration of the Occupation of New York City, each member of Occupy Fredonia is accountable for keeping the non-violence policy. All it takes is a few violent individuals to turn a peaceful organization into a riot.
