GA Minutes, Dec 1, 2011

Post date: Dec 02, 2011 6:13:6 PM

Minutes taken by Dave King

The next GA will be Saturday, 12/10 at 6PM in the Green Tea Room.

Approved Proposals:

1. We will be cooperating with the Unitarian Universalist Social Action Group to hold an open forum after UU church services on Sundays, probably from 1-3PM. A working group was created to plan this out. The group so far consists of Judi, Wendy, Cody, Jonathan, Allison, and Audrey. If you would like to help out, contact Judi.

2. Wendy proposed to have a different occupier each week write a column to be sent to the Observer and the Leader. The author will write about their personal story and why they occupy, then back up their assertions with facts to show that they are well-researched. If you are interested in writing a column, contact Wendy for more info.

3. General Assemblies will follow a two week pattern: the first week will focus on logistics, and the second week will contain more discussion.

4. The group as a whole will do everything in their power to prevent the local county home from being privatized.

5. Jonathan and Allison have been appointed co-treasurers by group consensus.

Other Topics Discussed:

Despite the cold, we still want to stand on the corner and hold signs occasionally. Good old fashioned protesting! A doodle will be created to see who is free at what times.

At one of the overnights, Tom created an inspiring painting of the town square. We will be donating it to the village to be placed in the town office to be a constant reminder of our cause. Tom will also be selling prints of the painting for $40. All the profits will be donated to the group.

Anything left at the Gazebo at the end of the occupation is being held at Sarah Hamilton's barn to be picked up.

A voter registration drive was suggested.

"Whirl Mart" is a protest technique that AdBusters has been practicing since 2001. It's when a group silently walks through Walmart with empty carts, symbolizing the emptiness of rampant consumerism. We would like to try this before the holiday season is over. A doodle will be created to find the most convenient time for the most people. More information: http://breathingplanet.net/whirl
