Alley Farmers' Markets

Welcome to Alley Farmers Markets - where neighbors sell backyard seasonal produce from cleaned-up alley garages on weekends...

How it Works

Alley selection is fairly specific, as alleys have to be in decent shape, with cleaned-up alley-facing garages (from which backyard farmers will set up tables to market their goods), presentable backyards (where backyard crops will be "shown & grown") and adequate parking access.

We host conversations with the neighborhood in the winter, see who might be interested in planting crops, coordinate the effort (e.g. seasonal plantings, appropriate crops), and then we charge a small fee from each participating household to "market & manage" the events each weekend during the season (including working with the City to maintain the alley & appurtenances).

The first Alley Farmers Market (and Garage Sale) is in the planning stages for the 2024 season, and will likely be held in the Southhampton neighborhood of St Louis.

Bathouses help keep bugs down (and as effective as purple martin houses)

Backyard fire pits - also good for burning clean paper trash to minimize landfill waste

Backyard bees turn clover lawns into front porch honey 🙂
