035 A Random Generative Volume Layout Generator

A Random Generative Volume Layout Generator

Proposal

In order to produce both optimal solutions; convergent evolution; and maximum variety; divergent evolution; any design has to be identified, described and developed by processes of natural selection; randomness and artificial selection; selection by the designer.

If all of these are used the working model also allows for depletion effects of construction upon resources, energy and environment in multiple ways for a specific development location since only the optimal and divergent final model is chosen to be put forward for construction.

The following model is proposed using a CAD system.

Method

Create scale, proportional, volumes as components for each of the volumes to be tested.

Give all these components a name of ‘Morph’.

Create copies of these components

Give each component a name of ‘Gen000’ and a definition name that is unique for each component volume.

Arrange these components in a 3 dimensional array form that indicates their perceived relationships; space syntax.

Make as many copies of this ‘Gen000’ 3 dimensional array form as are required to be examined.

Randomly exchange the ‘Morph’ component forms with the ‘Gen000’ forms to represent Natural selection.

Multiple Unique Generative copies are produced.

Save the outcome as a new component and then a file and Label it ‘Gen001’

Examine the outcome and then select those Generative forms that are to be discarded.

Examine the remaining and then select those Generative forms that are to be retained and used to generate the next generation. This represents artificial selection.

Change the name of the retained forms to ‘Morph’

Repeat the process; saving each Generation as a new file; until only one form remains.

Results

The results are displayed in the following animation sequence.

The animation is formed by placing each level of the 'Morph' cubes in a separate layer and linking that layer to an individual scene in the CAD program.

As each scene is played each layer of each random, multiple, generative form is displayed.

The animation therefore represents the shared time frame for all of the generative versions produced.
