• not only takes place in the lungs
  • ALSO in EVERY CELL of living organisms.
• Oxygen - normally required
• Carbon dioxide is produced (as waste product)

Aerobic respiration

• Oxygen is needed
• Glucose + oxygen -> Energy + Carbon dioxide + Water
• C₆H₁₂O₆ + O₂ -> Energy + CO₂ + H₂0

Anaerobic respiration

• No oxygen needed
• Glucose -> Energy+ Lactic acid
• C₆H₁₂O₆ -> Energy+ C₃H₆O₃

Get rid of Lactic acid through Aerobic respiration

• Lactic acid + oxygen -> Energy+ Carbon dioxide + Water
• C₃H₆O₃ + O₂ -> Energy + CO₂ + H₂0
