This is a 2-year course
There are 4 components. They are shown below:
Component 1 - Listening Unprepared - 24%
Component 2 - Listening Prepared - 16%
Component 3 - Performing - 30%
Component 4 - Composing - 30%
Listening is ONE test with 2 components. There are two papers to be done. Listening prepared will be done based on a recording supplied by the Cambridge Examination Board, with a maximum of 60 minutes provided for candidates. Candidates will then get a break for up to 20-minutes before moving on to component 2 - listening prepared. Here, candidates will get up to 40 minutes to finish the paper.
Component 3 - performing... is a practical.
- Candidates can sing or play any instrument of any grade.
- There will be one solo performance and one group performance.
- The total performance time should not exceed 10 minutes or be less than 4 minutes.
- A mark out of 25 will be given to each performance.
- This performance will be recorded, internally assessed and externally moderated **

Component 4 - Composing
- Candidates need to hand in 2 contrasting compositions of their own
- There is no time limit for these two compositions
- This will be done on the computer and at least one of them needs to be fully notated
- A mark out of 50 will be given to each composition.
- The compositions will be handed in using the music notational software Sibelius, a score and recording will be submitted**
- Compositions will be recorded, internally assessed and externally moderated**
