As Dental Hygiene Students at Moreno Valley College, we would like to discuss the impact that fluoride has on one's oral health. Fluoride is a part of our daily
lives whether it is in the water we drink, food we eat or toothpaste that we use. Speculations have been made about fluoride and in this website, we cover many topics that can help an individual understand the beneficial uses of fluoride. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), studies have shown that fluoride reduces tooth decay by 20-40%. One may ask, "Why is tooth decay such a big deal?" Well, tooth decay leads to cavities which are not always pleasant to deal with. Fluoride allows us to have a greater chance of avoiding the discomfort associated with cavities. Overall, fluoride can be seen as a shield for our teeth.(Image)Your child's first visit to the Dentist. (n.d.). Olympia Fields Dental Associates.
