Interdental aids are used before tooth brushing for the plaque removal that resides between your teeth. It helps individuals begin a routine for the removal of plaque in-between the teeth. To figure out which alternative method is most beneficial for you, the following things should be evaluated: your periodontal condition, restorative work, age, motivation, and manual dexterity. It is most beneficial to use interdental aids twice a day, especially in the evening, and before tooth brushing. By removing the plaque buildup that is in-between the teeth first, we are allowing the toothpaste to be able to get in those areas thus proving fluoride to those areas and thus making those areas less prone to acquiring caries. Also, we are more likely to both brush and floss if we floss first before brushing as opposed to brushing before we floss. This is because once we brush our teeth first our mouth already feels clean so it does not compel us to floss right after. (1)
