Rovers
Rovers are a fun add on option to the game. If you are familiar with geocaching travel bugs, they are similar. The plus side to rovers though is that they can never be stolen or lost! They can always be called back home!
Rovers can be purchased in the Munzee store. Then you can name them and let them explore the world. You can opt to let them roam free, depend on the whim of other players to fetch them, take them for a walk and then unleash them at another Munzee. Or, you can give them a goal. Rovers can earn points either way, but when they reach a goal, they earn even more points.
Check out the Munzee Rover page for basic details and point structures. Unfortunately, the features listed under “future possibilities” have never developed.
To access your rovers on the website, click on your Kennel in the menu bar.
There you will be given the option to view your pack (those you own) or "Met Rovers" (others' rovers that you have walked.)
Click on Pack
There you will see a list of all your Rovers.
Choose one and click.
The Rover page will open up.
Here you can see the rover's level and rank.
You will see its points, miles traveled, how many munzees and players it has visited and how old it is.
There is a map of its travels and a list of its activity.
Scroll down to learn more about the Admin tab.
Under the admin tab, you have the option to unleash, edit details (like name, description, etc), or deactivate your rover.
You also have the option to reset to last munzee or to you.
You may want to do this if your rover has been stuck somewhere for too long and no one is walking it. Or if someone is holding it too long, you can reset it to the last munzee it visited. You can only reset once every 7 days, so choose this option wisely!
You may also want to reset it to owner so that you can send it on a specific trip. There is a community on Facebook of players who offer to pick up your rovers and take them with them on their travels. This gives your rover the oppurtunity to meet lots of players (if there is an event or several players who share rovers) and to pick up points with lots of miles. Players will advertise their trip with details of where to drop the rover, the goal munzee, number of miles and points offered and the dates. You can then drop your rover at the starting point and once the rover has met its goal, reset to send it elsewhere.
There is another Facebook Group of players who offer to "walk" your rovers, often in exchange for a special social munzee. Players can earn badges by walking specific numbers of rovers. Since they are often difficult to find "in the wild", this gives players to option to meet more rovers. They will give you a munzee URL to unleash the rovers at.
You can also advertise to walk others' rovers. Remember, you must both fetch AND unleash the rover to get credit for walking! You must unleash it at a different munzee than you fetched it from.
If your rover is in your kennel, you can unleash it anywhere in the world. Simply click on "unleash" then enter the URL of the munzee you wish to send your rover to.
You will be given the command to "Check It!" to make sure it is going to the munzee you planned to send it to. If it is correct, hit "unleash" and your rover will now be sitting at that munzee. Anyone can pick it up from there. So, if you are unleashing it for a specific person, please let them know that you are doing so so they can go pick it up quickly.
Once you have unleashed your rover, you can give it a goal. Again, enter the URL of the goal munzee and then check it. You can also just "set free to roam" meaning it can travel randomly.
