Special Tools for Maintaining an RP06

You need the kit below in order to replace and align the heads in an RP06 disk drive.

This device connects to the Memorex disk drive electronics where the Massbus controller normally connects. It will send commands to the drive to move the heads to a specific cylinder and then select one of the heads. The gauge indicates the amount of misalignment. You then loosten the fastener for the head and use the Head Alignment Tool to move the head to the correct position and tighten the head fastener. Of course tightening the fastener usually moves the head so you need to anticipate the change in head position. If the heads are misaligned you will not be able to read or write packs from another RP06 drive.

This special alignment pack has the tracks written off-center so you will get an eye-pattern on an oscilloscope if you look at the signal from the heads. The tester above compares the left and right sides of the eye pattern to determine the amount of misalignment.

This kit is used to replace any of the mechanical parts in an RP06 disk drive.
