Concert Grand Model S-70

This is my first vintage radio. Since it had my name on it I had to have it. I have repaired a few vintage radios at the New England Wireless and Steam Museum, so getting this one working should not be too difficult.

A blog on the restoration can be found here.

The Thompson Concert Grand Is the top it the line of the Neutrodyne receivers that they made. Their advertising says that the set has six tubes where the lesser sets only have five. The extra audio amplifier stage would allow the set to drive a speaker much louder.

The front face of the 6-tube S-70 Concert Grand and the 5-tube S-60 Grandette look the same. The switch at the bottom left enables 6.3VDC filament power. The knob to the right controls the filament voltage for the RF and AF Amplification. The next knob to the right controls the filament voltage for the Detector. The jack at the far right is for headphones. When you plug in the headphones the speaker is disconnected.

This set has a 5-tube chassis, so only two stages of audio amplification. I found images of other S-80 Concert Grand radios that also have the 5-tube chassis, so maybe this is normal.
