Parlor Grand Model S-60

This is my second vintage radio. One of my colleagues at the New England Wireless and Steam Museum told me about it. It was only a 1.5 hour drive away, so now I have it.

A blog on the restoration can be found here.

The Thompson Parlor Grand is the second from top it the line of the Neutrodyne receivers that they made. Their advertising says that it has five tubes, two RF amplification, a detector, and two AF amplification. The chassis looks identical to what is in my S-70 Studio Grand. This one is missing the power key, but a reproduction is available.

The switch at the bottom left enables 6.3VDC filament power. The knob to the right controls the filament voltage for the RF and AF Amplification. The next knob to the right controls the filament voltage for the Detector. The jack at the far right is for headphones. When you plug in the headphones the speaker is disconnected.

This set has a 5-tube chassis, so only two stages of audio amplification. I found images of other S-80 Concert Grand radios that also have the 5-tube chassis, so maybe this is normal.
