Electromagnetic Radiation

I. VIDEO ON ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION

II. NOTES ON ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION

Electromagnetic Radiation is energy that is be transmitted from one place to another by light.

As shown by the diagram above, the electromagnetic radiation can be high in energy like x-rays or can it be low in energy such as radio waves.

How does these various types of electromagnetic radiation differ from one another? To answer this question, one needs to talk about waves.

A wave is characterized by three properties

1- Wavelength (symbolized by the Greek letter lambda, λ )

is the distance between two consecutive peaks

2-Frequency (symbolized by the Greek letter nu, ν )

indicates how many peaks pas a certain point per given time period.

3-Speed of light (symbolized by the letter c)

whose value is 3.00 x 108 m/s
