Scientific Notation

In science, many times numbers are either very large or very small. Scientific notation is way to express these numbers in a very clean and efficient way.

For example a number such as

93,000,000,000,000

is rather cumbersome looking and rather hard to read.

However, if one expressed the above number as

9.3 x 10¹⁷

it is easier to read and looks much neater!

Scientific notation is defined as a number expressed as a product of a number between 1 and 10

and a power of 10 (either being positive or negative).
