Readers Workshop
Reader's Workshop is an important part of the balanced literacy approach in our classroom. Readers Workshop allows students to work on authentic reading and writing practice while I meet with small groups and individual students. During this block of time, students will participate in teacher led mini-lessons on reading strategies, phonics, phonemic awareness, and word study. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the following balanced literacy activities while I meet with small groups or individual students.
Read to Self: Students each have a book box full of "right fit" books that they read from during read to self.
Work on Writing: Students will work on original writing including genres they have been exposed to such as journal, narrative, informative, and book reviews.
Word Work: Students will practice phonics skills, sight words, building sentences, and weekly spelling words.
Listen to Reading: Students will use technology to listen to fluent reading from interesting literature.
