Small Group/Guided Reading

This year in first grade part of your child's reading instruction will be taught through guided reading. Guided reading focuses on the individual needs of each student. During guided reading teachers work with small groups of students at their instructional reading level to guide them in using various reading strategies to generate meaning.  The guided reading groups are flexible and change according to the needs of the student. Your child will be reading both fiction and non-fiction books at their instructional level throughout the year.
