Writing Evaluations

Paper evaluations include comments on grammar, content, and style. They will include suggestions for practice in specific skills where appropriate. I will give the paper a grade if desired, or simply make comments. See the links in the right sidebar for details for submitting papers, and for my grading guidelines.

The best way to improve your writing is to revise, revise, revise. Because revision is the writer's best (if dreaded) friend, I want to encourage revising papers after receiving comments. Fees are listed below for submitting a revision of a previously submitted paper. You may purchase a revision at the same time you purchase the evaluation package, or any time during the same academic year I evaluated the original paper.

I will do my best to return your papers within a week of receiving them (and less when possible.) At times, however, life interrupts my best-laid plans. I ask for your grace and flexibility when health or family issues arise and interrupt the schedule, and I will try to be equally gracious in return. If you need your comments returned to you by a certain date, remember to give me a week's lead time, and mention clearly when you need the paper returned.

Standard evaluation: A single paper, up to 1,000 words: $25

Standard revision: Comments on a single revision of a preciously submitted paper: $5

Package evaluation: Up to 6 papers and 5,000 words: $100

Package revision: Up to 6 paper revisions of previously submitted papers: $20
