SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING FINAL PROJECT
This project will count for 50% of the final exam grade for this class.
You may work with a partner.
If you would like to work as a group of three, please ask for permission first.
CHOOSE OPTION A OR OPTION B
OPTION A: CREATE A NEW SPORTS FRANCHISE
This project has three parts.
I. PowerPoint or Microsoft Word written report. Sections must include:
a. Cover Page (name of team, location of team, your names, picture(s) (5 points)
b. Table of Contents (listing of the sections that follow) (5 points)
c. PRODUCT: Team information (10 points)
i. Team name and nickname
ii. League
iii. Who are the notable players who will be on this team? (it won’t be an all start team, so be reasonable)
iv. Include a section on either the coach, general manager, or owner (or all 3)
v. Trade character (mascot) OR Brand mark (logo) – this should be unique
d. PLACE: Location justification. (10 points)
i. Why did you choose this location?
ii. What will be the economic impact of the area with this team here? (be sure to talk about infrastructure)
iii. Describe the arena / field / stadium [SEE SECTION II]
e. PRICE: (10 points)
i. How much will items cost? (tickets, specific food items, specific souvenirs)
ii. What pricing strategies are being used? Be sure to use specific strategies mentioned in the pricing chapter.
f. PROMOTION: (20 points)
i. How will you use promotion to get people to come to your games and spend money?
ii. Use all four parts of the promotional mix (public relations, advertising, personal selling, and sales promotions) BE SPECIFIC
II. Visual Representation of the Arena / Field / Stadium (drawings can be computer drawings) (30 points)
a. Either build a model of the arena / field / stadium
OR
b. Create a poster size drawing (color) of the arena / field / stadium.
OR
c. Create at least three 8½ X 11 drawings (color) of parts of the arena / field / stadium These can include:
i. Inside
ii. Outside
iii. Trade Character (mascot)
iv. Brand mark, logo of team (either letters or nickname in a memorable unique way)
v. Concession stand or Souvenir stand
vi. Scoreboard (be sure to include signage of sponsors like a real stadium scoreboard)
vii. Print advertisement for the team
III. Class Presentation (10 points)
OPTION B: CREATE A NEW COMPANY SPECIALIZING IN SPORTS OR ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCTS
This project has three parts.
I. PowerPoint or Microsoft Word written report. Sections must include:
a. Cover Page (name of business, location of business, your names, picture(s) (5 points)
b. Table of Contents (listing of the sections that follow) (5 points)
c. PRODUCT: business information (10 points)
i. Business name and location
ii. Primary products / services available (can be tangible or intangible or both)
iii. Listing of other products available
iv. Include a section on either the owner, vice president of marketing, or other (or all 3)
v. Trade character (mascot) OR Brand mark (logo) – this should be unique
d. PLACE: Location justification. (10 points)
i. Why did you choose this location?
ii. How will people get the products from your company? Do you make the products or are they produced by other companies? Will the products go to a wholesaler, then be sold at a retailer? Will they be available by catalog or Internet?
iii. Describe the business building [SEE SECTION II]
e. PRICE: (10 points)
i. How much will primary items cost? (these should relate to the products noted above)
ii. What pricing strategies are being used? Be sure to use specific strategies mentioned in the pricing chapter.
