Post date: Oct 10, 2014 4:52:26 PM

On Friday, October 10th, Sean Eldridge came in to talk to Mr. Loomis's management class and Ms. Keegan's 6th period economics class. Mr. Eldridge is an American investor and politician. He is the president of Hudson River Ventures, an investment fund that focuses on small businesses in New York's Hudson Valley region. Mr. Eldridge is currently running as a Democratic candidate for New York's 19th congressional district.

As part of Mr. Loomis's management class, students write a letter to local managers, leaders, or business owners inviting them to come to speak to the class about their experiences in management. Mr. Eldridge was invited by Sierra.

Mr. Loomis invited Ms. Keegan's economics class to join in on the discussion as many of the topics relate well to the students' required economics course. Mr. Eldridge, as a venture capitalist, prior communications director, and candidate for office had a wealth of knowledge to share with students about what it takes to run a business, to be an entrepreneur, and to working with others.

He fielded questions about what motivates him, what he looks for in businesses in which he invests, how people learn from mistakes, and what a typical day looks like in his job. Additionally, he discussed how running for a political office affects a person's job, the costs of college education, and the roles and responsibilities that managers have.
