Gogol Center/Гоголь центр
Kazakova st, 8
Metro Kurskaya
The Gogol Center is a multi-use theatrical space established in 2012. It was originally the Gogol Theater, but after years of poor turnout the director of the theater was fired and Kirill Serebnikov was brought in to transform the space. This space is Moscow’s newest government-funded theatrical space. Three residents were invited to work in the Gogol Center: Dialogue Dance, a well-known dance company, SounDrama, the studio that created a totally new aesthetic language, and Studio Seven, (the seventh studio to be created out of former students from MAT)one of the youngest theatre companies with huge potential. Gogol Center does not limit itself with any genre boundaries and constantly strives to reflect Modern Art in the most relevant way. Gogol Center is a theatre leading a constant dialogue with reality while creating a reality within its walls. Heated debates and conferences on the most current themes in the discussion club “Gogol+”, world premieres of the movies that have never been released in Russia in the program “Gogol cinema”, large music concerts and of course performances on several stages by the most remarkable Russian and foreign directors. All this makes it possible to explore the vast spheres of modern Art while remaining in the same space.
