A rebellious young man flees from the world of people to the forest, waterfalls, rocks and cliffs, learning the secrets of the universe. In this production the reading of the poem is passed through the plastic and combined with a polyphonic reading. The role of Novice is performed by three actors, expressing different incarnations of Lermontov's hero.
This fascinating chronicle of the liberation of body and spirit is embodied in the style of physical theatre. The direction connects contact improvisation, martial arts and dance.
The natural flavor of the play emphasizes simple objects and materials - bamboo sticks, stones, sickles, land and water. The music was written by Alexander Manotskov specifically for play. It is intertwined with religious and ethnic motifs as well as stylized African choir songs by composer Stephen Mikus.
