Red Cavalry
Meyerhold Center
"Red Cavalry" is a play by Maxim Didenko with the music of Ivan Kushnir. The show is a musical with elements of the rituals of Jewish culture, the culture of military marches, Ukrainian folk music, and songs, and Catholic choral music.
The play was created based on the theme of Isaac Babel's stories of the Civil War. The Red Cavalry Army, under the command of Semyon Budyonny, moves on the Ukrainian-Polish soil to capture Warsaw.
This work is based on a workshop of Dmitry Brusnikin's at the Moscow Art Theater, which grew out of a course at the Moscow Art Theater School. In their second year of study, students played performances at leading venues in Moscow - in the theaters "Practica", and Teatr.doc.
