A French director David Bobée, together with Kirill Serebrennikov, has created this show, inspired by the Greco-Roman myths in the interpretation of Ovid which are this time combined with the reality of the 21st century. The hexameter of the classical verse coexists here with the texts composed for the performance by a playwright Valery Pecheikin. The action takes place in the timeless space inhabited by the souls of the Greek gods and kings.
Daedalus and Icarus, Orpheus and Eurydice, Narcissus and Echo appear from all the sides – either from bonnets, trunks or saloons of the old crushed cars. In a huge crowd they come face to face with the audience telling their stories. They either speak directly from themselves floundering and stuttering or completely transform into the heroes – and they need just one moment to turn a joke into the high tragedy.
“Metamorphoses” is a global multimedia performance, mixing drama theatre with contemporary dance, video art and sound design. It’s a view on the eternal cultural plots from the new millennium, an attempt to understand what they can mean nowadays, when Orpheus could have easily sent dead Eurydice a private message in “Facebook”.
