Private wire

The KOBServer software has a feature that I call private wire. This is for use by museums or special events that want to have exclusive use of a particular KOB wire. To access a private wire, the KOB user needs to append a "PIN code" to the end of the office ID text. For example, if the PIN for wire 1844 is #1234, then to connect to wire 1844 my ID will have to look something like

AC Les - Bellevue WA#1234

Note: The server strips the PIN code from the ID text. It is not visible to other users and it does not appear in any of the server logs.

If users try to connect to a private wire without the correct PIN code, they won't be able to send or receive anything over that wire.

By convention, all private wires are in the 200-series range.

To configure the KOB server for a private wire, the system administrator needs to edit the file KOBServer\pins.py to add the desired wire number/PIN code pair. If you're setting up a production MorseKOB server, contact me to get the current pins.py file.

It is also possible to allow for semiprivate wires, in which case you need to specify the PIN in order to send on the wire, but any user can listen to the wire. In the case of a semiprivate wire, you need a PIN code to send, but anyone is able to listen. A semiprivate wire is distinguished by having a plus sign (+) in place of the fourth digit of the PIN.
