Summer Hillside
Its steep sides rose
to the stormy star-path;
Its rounded flanks
seemed to reach the horizon.
Menacing clouds
hid the mountain-top;
Rain ran in rivulets
to the roots of the rise.
Eagles called
on the airy heights;
Robins sang
in the rushy glen.
Snow capped the peaks,
despite summer’s heat;
Broad-boughed trees
blossomed below.
